So we reach the end of the Scott Pilgrim saga, with Scott doing battle against the last of Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends, this time the sinister Gideon, who keeps his ex-girlfriends in cryogenic storage inside his head. Penultimate volume of this tremendously entertaining series. The next two evil ex-boyfriends turn out to be very tall Japanese twin brothers. (They appear on page 11 so this is hardly a spoiler.) But what of Scott's relationship with Ramona, with her cat, and indeed with reality? I guess we will find out in the next and final book.

I've generally been enjoying these graphic novels about Scott and his battles with his girlfriend's evil exes, but I thought this one was particularly good: hitting Scott's angst about commitment to Ramona, working out the depth of his own feelings, at the same time as their friendship group, which has been a fairly stable background through the ( Read more... )

More mad goings on in the world of Scott Pilgrim, where not only does he face another of Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends, but she does battle with his ex-girlfriend in the middle of the Toronto Reference Library. I can see why people got hooked on this.

Since I hardly ever go the cinema, I don't know when I'll see the movie, but I must say I liked the first volume: Scott and all his friends are well-drawn characters, and the sheer insanity of ending the book with the first of Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends duelling with the unfortunate Scott, video-game style, at the scene of an abortive gig is very ( Read more... )
